Tony Jones:

Tony Jones, d. May 2016

I’m sorry to bear the news that Tony Jones died on Friday morning. His health had deteriorated dramatically in the last 12 months. Whilst he was still living at home with assistance of carers, he was admitted to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor, on Wednesday afternoon of this week. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Friday morning.

He was increasingly frustrated by his decreasing mobility in his later life and he was also countering the recent onset of Parkinsons, but he continued to maintain his high standard of independence throughout.

He came from South Africa, and was a PhD student working on the bottom sediments of Cardigan Bay, and on graduating moved to Bangor, where he remained until retiring. His other passion was mountaineering, which led to his involvement in mountain rescue, and he became Leader of the Ogwen Valley Team in Snowdonia.
